A few months after meeting my husband in 2008, we began to compile #THELIST It is essentially a bucket list of things that we'd love to do and goals we wanted to achieve. We would send each other e-mails back and forth while he was away at university, adding to #THELIST and watching as it grew larger and larger.
My husband has found much success as a professional athlete, besides obviously working really hard, eating healthy, and staying in top shape, he has one habit when it comes to his goals, which I've adopted, and that is to WRITE IT DOWN. You have a goal? Write it down. You want to visit some far away place? Write it down. Is there something you want to try but might be afraid to? Write it down. The minute you write it down, it becomes something bigger than a thought, it becomes concrete. Something happens between your hand, the pen and paper, and your brain. Subconsciously, you begin trying to connect the dots making that goal come closer. You wanted to run a marathon, so you wrote it down. Now when you look at it, not only does it hold you more accountable, but it allows you to visualize and set your goal in motion.
Back in 2014 when we were about to start Kyle's six season as a professional basketball player, he wrote down his goals for the year. These goals were for both on and off the court. The biggest goal on there was...BUY A HOUSE. Once he wrote it down it set the ball rolling, now instead of glancing on Zillow, dreaming of maybe buying a house, we were now actively looking. Now that we were looking it motivated us to save more money. Writing it down set off the chain of events that ultimately lead to us finding the perfect house to call our first home.
For me simply writing down THE HOBBYIST LIFE, set my dream of starting a website become a reality. I then wrote down my ideas and talked to my husband and our co-founder, Becky and next thing I knew I was buying a domain name and the rest is history.
As a Hobbyist with many passions, I decided how fun would it be for me to share #THELIST with you, because I know you guys will help motivate me to achieve the things on my list and in turn I hope to help you achieve your dreams. #THELIST is a new section featured on The Hobbyist Life where I will share my love for Travel, Food and Fitness. You can follow along on my journey, some things on "The List" are really big goals like completing an Ironman triathlon and while others are on a much smaller scale, such as learning to properly frost a cake.
#THELIST will always be growing and evolving. You can visit #THELIST section on our site to see what I hope to do over my lifetime and I hope if you've done one of the things featured or traveled to one of these desired destinations you can share your experience with us, don't hesitate to leave a comment or send us a message, we love to hear about our readers achievements.
Just to be clear this is a long term list, I am not expecting to check all these places and things off within the next year, but I do look at it as continued motivation to get out there and experience life, live it to the fullest and try new things.
Be sure to keep up with my progress by visiting #TheList in our feature section.
